The Chicken Hawk

The Chicken Hawk

I wanted to be a mechanic.

I wanted to learn a trade.

Yet here I am in this desert hell,
Fighting wars politicians made.

We're moved like puzzle pieces,
More than half a world away.

We fight, we bleed, our psyches scarred,
Today, and every day.

Not only have they never fought,
Their children have been spared.

It's left to us, the young and poor,
To go where they've not dared.

It's easy to be a commander,
When you've never come to harm.

It's easy to make decisions,
With your loved ones safe and warm.

If I could have one wish,
It would not be for wealth.

I'd pray that no one could wage a war,
Unless he had served himself.
